Our first impression of the beautiful Georgina Austin was one of ‘how does she do it’? Georgina juggles her two little ones Harry, 4 , and Heidi, 2, alongside her widely successful Australian knitwear label, Cable Melbourne. All that and you'd be hard pressed to find her without a lush blow dry- an art she perfected at only 13. The fashion aficionado launched her label in 2007, after working in house as a graphic and textiles designer at Country Road. Her luxe designs are made of gorgeous merino wool- perfectly fitting for the Melbournite and beyond.

Georgina's Path to Cable Melbourne

“I launched the label in 2007 as I saw a gap in the market for quality Australian merino knitwear.

I studied a Bachelor of Design at RMIT in Melbourne before I started working at Country Road as a textile and graphic designer. The opportunity gave me my introduction to fashion and that was it! I love graphic design, and fashion/running my own label allows me to turn graphic design into something beautiful, tactile and three dimensional.

Georgina's Nighttime Skincare Ritual

My beauty routine is very nighttime based.

I just have more time and my skin responds better. PM is my revive opportunity! At night – I use the Garner Micellar Water to remove make up. And then I can’t go past James Vivian, they sell amazing things!. I use the SkinMedica Lytera Brightening Complex, Results Rx A Solution Vitamin A and Triple AHA Serum. I also am obsessed with Aspect Super Moisturising Complex (S.M.C). In the morning I just moisturise and make up, very straight forward. I always carry Kora Rosehip oil, Aesop Deodorant and organic hand cream during travel so I can feel human and 'fresh' even on the longest of flights.

My favourite product is the Stila 12 Colour Eyeshadow Palette

I add a smoky eye for PM and it’s the best. As for the day I’m definitely a minimalist. I always start with Stila Illuminating Foundation, it’s light and the perfect base for my skin. Nars Laguna Bronzer is next for an all over glow and then I add Nars Shimmer Stick to my cheeks. I also always have my Chanel lipstick compact handy. I prefer it over one lipstick given I often have to move from day to night- adding a fresh lip colour is my go too. I can't be without Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lipbalm as well. A spritz of Serge Lutens – L’Eau de Paille and I’m ready to go.

Georgina's Blow-Dry Expertise

I knew how to blow dry my hair from age 13…

I had outrageous curls that were very difficult to manage. My mum taught me to never leave the house with wet hair and how to tame the mane! I am loving the new Dyson Supersonic right now- it's amazing. It really has been a great life lesson that I will definitely pass down to Heidi.

I have a quarterly treatment from James Vivian Dermal Therapies

to ensure my skin retains its glow and can combat the typical Melbourne four seasons in one day! The treatment consists of a triple exfoliation to deep cleanse; Cutera’s Laser Genesis to non-invasively stimulate collagen, refine pores and help heal breakouts; a light chemical peeling treatment to brighten and hydrate; and a custom mask to further address any remaining concerns. It’s divine and sounds epic because it is! And would you believe it only takes an hour.

Georgina's Walk-In Wardrobe

My walk in wardrobe is my happy place.

I especially designed it to have no doors as I love to be able to see everything. It’s an organised mess! My style is understated, I like classic with an edge. My favourite designers are Celine for simplicity, Helmut Lang for the technical design elements and Max Mara for classics. I recently indulged in the Celine Small Cabas Phantom as a work tote update and it literally holds everything.

Georgina's Fitness and Food

Running after two small children is my current form of fitness.

We eat a lot of simple home cooked meals in our house, lots of curries and roasts. My husband is pretty good in the kitchen which helps. We also love take away Asian and are spoilt for choice in our neighbourhood. Our two regulars are Miss Chu and Hannah Hanoi in Prahran. My only must have daily practice is coffee- I cannot live without it."
